Top honours for Perthshire whisky
whisky Tullibardine’s 20-year-old Staff at a Perthshire distillery are celebrating after bagging three awards at a top wine and spirit competition.
Tullibardine Distillery in Blackford triumphed at the International Wine and Spirit Competition, and brought home three awards, including two“outstanding”silver awards for the Tullibardine 20year-old and 25-year-old and a bronze for the Tullibardine Sovereign.
The competition takes place every year in London and aims to judge whiskies on their taste and quality through doubleblind tasting and chemical analysis.
John Torrance, distillery manager at Tullibardine Distillery, said:“It is an incredible achievement to be recognised on a global scale amongst such prestigious competition.
“The International Wine and Spirit Competition is among the most important awards in the industry and our success demonstrates the craft that goes into whisky creation at Tullibardine.
“We’re so proud of each of the awards we’ve received and it’s a testament to the dedication and passion that goes into producing every single dram here in Perthshire.
“From the clear, pure water of the Ochil Hills, our surrounding micro climate and the Highland air, it’s the perfect place to create exceptional whisky.”
This is the second year in a row Tullibardine has tasted success at the competition, after it received a silver medal of excellence for its The Murray 2004 last year.
In this year’s competition, judges complimented the Perthshire distillery’s 20 year old saying it“boasted a complex, fruity quality with a soft and sweet palate”.
Likewise, the 25 year old was judged to be“a very well balanced palate”.
Now in its 49th year, the competition received entries from almost 90 countries.
