Over 700 people turned out to enjoy the very first Perthshire Pride on Saturday, August 11, with live music, singers, drag acts and inspirational speakers on Horsecross Plaza and inside Perth Concert Hall.

A number of stalls were set up around the plaza and there was a youth zone inside the concert hall, which also boasted gender-neutral toilets for the day.

Rev Scott Burton from St Matthew’s Church in Perth made the official opening speech in the early afternoon, where he apologised to the region’s LGBT community for the “cruelty and injustice” they may have experienced at the hands of the church.

Speaking afterwards, he said: “I feel good and hope what I said was of benefit to the LGBT community and indeed the church.

“As a society we need to bring people together and work together to be one human race.

“This is a big moment as there has never been a Perthshire Pride before.

“The Church of Scotland and churches of all denominations have been looking at this subject more often for a number of years, and hopefully this is a step in the right direction.
