‘Tremendous’ winforBlair

Upbeat Blairgowrie Juniors manager Mark Brash has described his side’s 3-1 away league win against Kinnoull on Saturday as“tremendous”.

Two Gordon Norrie penalties and a second half strike from Gary Axworthy – his seventh goal in two games so far this season – sealed the win and continued the positive momentum for the east Perthshire side.

Kinnoull, who missed a penalty in the closing stages, had taken the lead in the 32nd minute when Liam Woolley nodded into the back of the net.

Reflecting on the weekend’s action, Davie Park boss Brash said:“It was a fantastic result.

“In the first half Kinnoull were the better team but created few real chances.

“Their goal came from a corner when we were down to 10 men due to a player receiving treatment for an injury.

“But we reacted well to going behind and equalised quickly. In the second half, the boys were tremendous. We dominated and could have scored more – all in all, it was a great result.”

Elsewhere in the Premier League North, Luncarty were held to a 1-1 draw away at Brechin Vics.

Fraser Mills got the Bleachers off to the perfect start before Dylan Cook levelled for the hosts shortly after the half hour mark.

Luncarty boss Jon Kelly was not impressed with his side’s performance and, making matters worse, influential Richie Montgomery picked up a serious injury.

“To say I was disappointed on Saturday was an understatement,” Kelly told the PA.

“Although I was impressed immensely with Brechin’s work ethic, we as a team were very poor all over the park. I thought that Brechin deserved a point in the game with the attitude they showed.

“I expect a few other teams to have strengthened like Brechin have, so this was a good early warning for us going ahead.

“The home game against Arbroath can’t come quick enough now for me and I’m sure the players feel the same way.

“On the injury front it does not get any better for us with Richie Montgomery breaking his wrist in the first two minutes of the game on Saturday. He will now miss around eight weeks at least.”

Scone Thistle lost 2-0 away to Dundee Violet while Coupar Angus were thrashed 13-1 by Dundee North End at Foxhall Park.
