Anderson injury not serious, says boss

-

St Johnstone defender Steven Anderson’s ankle injury is not as bad as first feared, manager Tommy Wright has confirmed.

The experienced centre-back hit the turf in the second half against Hibernian and couldn’t continue.

Saints boss Wright was bracing himself for the worst but has since received positive news from the club’s physio.

“The physio has had a look at Ando’s ankle and it’s better news than we thought it could be,”Wright said.

“It’s not too bad, he might be able to train later this week.

“If not, he’s only going to be out for days rather than weeks so that’s great news.”

Wright got the reaction he was looking for in Sunday afternoon’s exciting 1-1 draw with Neil Lennon’s men.

He said:“I was pleased to get a point. Both managers could have been standing at the end of the game with no points.

“It was one of those games where it was end to end at times.

“I’m really pleased to come up against a quality side – you need to look at the players they are able to bring on – and match them.

“I genuinely think they will be right up there this season.

“They are a team playing with confidence and have got a lot of confidence from their performances in Europe.

“They made more use of their opportunities in the first half but I did still think we got into really good positions in the first half.

“We got a reaction and played more like how we can.”
