Chloe puts pedal to the floor to race off with coveted‘O Plate’
Perth track star Chloe Grant topped the podium in Stranraer Perth kart racer Chloe Grant captured the “O Plate”at Cults Kart Club in Stranraer.
The event was contested over two days, with three races on Saturday and two more and a final on Sunday.
Perth High pupil Chloe (12) clocked-up the most points in the six race programme.
The weather proved challenging, with rain showers and strong winds.
The Heavens opened during the first heat, with drivers already out on slick tyres.
Determined Chloe came from last place on the grid to win.
In the second heat, the drivers chose to race on wet tyres, before reverting back to slicks for the final race.
Chloe, who was the youngest competing in the Rotax Mini Max class, won four of her five heats.
This secured pole position for the final, which she led from start to finish, building a three second gap over Adam Tonge of Falkirk. Local driver Ben Marshall of Glenluce took the final step on the podium.
The victory allows Chloe to race with the“O”race plate rather than her own number.
However, she is sticking with her tried and tested number and explained:“I will be sticking with the No 66 which I have used since starting kart racing five years ago.”
The win also consolidates third place in the club championship at Stranraer.
After missing the first four meetings of the year, Chloe didn’t expect to progress this far up the table.
This weekend Chloe is back out racing at the final round of the East of Scotland Kart Club Championship in Crail.
She is the defending champion and is currently sitting in second place.
Chloe insists she will be doing everything possible to try and retain her title before progressing to the faster Junior Rotax class in 2019.
