Tayside Police say they are still trying to establish whether a collision that left an elderly pensioner dead on the A9 at the weekend was a hit and run.

On Sunday, November 3 the 83-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle as she walked on the Perth city bypass in the early hours of the morning.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and investigating police officers are now appealing to members of the public to come forward with information.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland’s Tayside division said: “About 2.25am Police Scotland responded to reports of a female pedestrian having been struck by a vehicle on the A9 between Broxden and Inveralmond roundabouts. Sadly an 83-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries are still ongoing and officers are particularly interested in tracing the occupants of a white coloured transit type van which was seen in the area at the time.

“Any person who may have witnessed the incident or saw a female walking in the area are asked to call Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident 0672 or 01/11/18.”

The southbound A9 was closed off for around six hours on Sunday morning will police officers investigated the scene.

Later the same day, a male driver was taken to hospital in a critical condition after crashing into a tree in Highland Perthshire. The incident happened at around 4.20pm on the A827 between Kenmore and Aberfeldy.

The spokesperson for Police Scotland’s Tayside division said a green Landrover Discovery, containing three occupants, had left the carriageway and collided with a tree.

They added: “The driver, a 22-year-old male, sustained serious head injuries and was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Glasgow, where he was detained in a critical condition.

“Any person who witnessed the accident or saw the Landrover Discovery is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident 2971 or speak with any police officer.”
