Cutting the cake on 40 years
Over two million items relating to every aspect of local history make up Perth and Kinross Archive and the useful public resource celebrates its 40th anniversary this month with a number of events.
Provost Dennis Melloy and senior staff from the Perth and Kinross Archive were at a civic reception event on Friday, November 2 held at Perth Museum.
A national initiative,‘Explore Your Archive’has led to Perth offering talks, tours, exhibitions and film screenings to be held in the archive and local libraries during November.
The archive began in the basement of the Sandeman Library in 1978, getting a major upgrade when purpose-built facilities were given to it within AK Bell Library. Each year the archive welcomes around 1700 researchers, responds to approximately 500 enquiries and participates in a wide variety of activities helping local communities to explore and celebrate their local heritage.
