Martin Atkins rocks

Perth Col­lege UHI For­mer punk band drum­mer Martin Atkins is giv­ing a must-see talk at Perth Col­lege next week for any­one in a band who hopes to make it.

Atkins was a mem­ber of Johnny Rot­ten’s Pub­lic Im­age Ltd and Killing Joke. He founded in­dus­trial su­per­group Pig­face, The Dam­age Man­ual, and Mur­der Inc and has con­trib­uted to Nine Inch Nails and Min­istry.

He’s writ­ten an es­sen­tial guide to nav­i­gat­ing the mu­sic busi­ness, called Band:Smart, now in its 71 re­vi­sion.

The book cov­ers cre­at­ing the en­tity, the first shows, the writ­ing, the record­ing, the pack­ag­ing, the mer­chan­dis­ing, the prob­lems, the la­bels and more, all from an in­sider’s per­spec­tive.

Atkins taught at Columbia Col­lege in Chicago where he in­structed the course‘The Busi­ness of Tour­ing’.

He gives a talk at Perth Col­lege on Novem­ber 13 at 2pm. The talk will take place in room 505 in the Goodly­burn Cam­pus.

This event is open to all, in­clud­ing non-stu­dents.
