Car vandals leave £2000 of damage

-

Thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to cars in Bridge of Earn when a teenage Hogmanay reveller ran over the bonnets and windscreens of parked vehicles.

Police Scotland is appealing for information about the incident that took place in Dunning Street, Bridge of Earn on December 31 about 9.30pm.

A male aged 1517 years old, one of a group of youths, was seen to run over and jump on top of a number of cars in the street.

At least two cars, a BMW and a Nissan X-Trail, were damaged with dents to the roofs and bonnets and a cracked windscreen.

Authorities think more cars may have also been damaged as others were seen to have been run over as well.

The total cost of the lone vandal’s car-top sprint is so far estimated at around £2000.

Officers would like to trace a white teenage male, slim build with short brown hair, who was wearing a white t-shirt with a large black logo on the front and bright blue trainers.

This comes after several cars were scratched in a residential area of Blairgowrie on December 27.

Police Scotland is appealing for information about the vandalism incidents which happened in Park Drive and Harriet Row in the eastern Pethshire town, between 7pm on Thursday 27 and 12pm on Friday, December 28.

Police Scotland said: “So far we are aware of eight cars having been damaged - a blue Peugeot people carrier, a silver Peugeot 3008, a red Peugeot 308, a grey Ford Focus, a black Vauxhall Corsa, a grey Ford Eco Sport, a silver Citroen C1, and a navy Kia Cerato.

“There may be more cars damaged that we have not yet been informed of. Although a large number of cars have been damaged, this would likely only have taken seconds to do, and these are not particularly busy streets.” Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Council chair Ian Richards said it was a setback to hear more than eight parked vehicles had their paintwork damaged.

Mr Richards said: “After some vandalism in the Wellmeadow in November, when the Wishing Well was damaged, we had been happy to note that there had been zero reports of antisocial behaviour in the Wellmeadow over Christmas.

“I’m really disappointed to hear that one or more antisocial people took it on themselves to damage the cars. These are quiet streets where people live an that makes this all the more upsetting that parked cars were not safe.

“We could well do without this in Blairgowrie.”

Mr Richards added: “I would urge anyone who knows about the car vandalism to speak to the police.”

Anyone with information that could assist police enquiries, or if your car has also been damaged, contact officers on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. The crime reference for Blairgowrie is CR/31653/18. Dunning Street in Bridge of Earn
