Anger at late night fireworks display

-

It is legal to let off fireworks if they finish before 11pm - that’s a lot of bangs for the time between Christmas and New Year when you’d expect nothing to be happening.

“They showed total distain for people living beside the site.

“I’ve been to displays in London that were smaller than this one. Honestly it was terrifying. We all got the shock of our lives. If you were on the A9 you couldn’t see a thing for all the smoke.”

A woman with children, also from Pitagowan, said: “I’ve seriously never heard anything like it. I thought our boiler had exploded when it first started. We had very scared kids and dogs.”

Many residents took to Facebook to discover what had happened.

One resident of Pitlochry likened it to mortar shells going off.

Yesterday House of Bruar’s MD Patrick Birkbeck defended the display.

He said: “Our error was not making it more public that we were having a party for my father. We’ve been planning it for nine months and we thought everybody in the community around Bruar knew about it.

“As it was we had a private party. No one was hurt. We had fireworks that finished before 11pm.”

A number of complaints came to Highland Ward councillor Mike Williamson.

He told the PA there were a range of other factors that caused concern: “As well as the lateness and the lack of warning, I was troubled to hear how the smoke from the fireworks obscured the view of the A9.”
