Skip Robin has home advantage in sights

-

Robin Brydone was looking forward to getting underway in Perth the ice conditions that you’re going to get. They never really change.

“You can go and play the game you want straight away rather than test out and see what the ice is doing. It’s an advantage to be on home ice.

“Our aim going into the event is to try and reach the quarter-finals and we know that is going to be tough.

“Even the Scottish teams, you’ve got Bruce Mouat, Ross Paterson and Glen Muirhead who are all having good results out on the tour. Then you add in a lot of the other top European teams, so it’s never going to be easy.

“Nobody is really expecting us to go out and do anything so if we fly under the radar and get a good result, then we’re happy with that.

“Hopefully others might lower their guard against us but I think they know we’re not awful and can turn up on the day.

“If we turn up on the day we know that we can beat most teams out there.”

Robin added: “I remember growing up and watching the competition, seeing a lot of the top Canadian, European and Scottish teams.

“I was sitting as a spectator so to get the chance to play in these competitions and compete, it’s one I always look forward to.”

Skip Robin has been pleased with form so far this season alongside team regulars Gregor Cannon and Craig Waddell.

“The line-up has been working quite well,” Robin said. “We’ve made a decision that it’s now three of us who

Robin (centre) will be a familiar sight at the Mercure City of Perth Masters are a constant in the team.

“It’s myself, Craig and Gregor with the lead position swapping in and out.

“It’s still to be talked about but we’ve made that decision in the last month.

“It couldn’t have worked any better because we’ve qualified at every event we’ve played.

“A couple of results could have been better in terms of who we’ve played in certain games. But I’m really happy with how it’s working.

“With it being a month to go before the Scottish Championships, it’s always good to see where you’re at before them.

“After the Masters it’s in to full practice mode for the Scottish Championships which start in February, again in Perth.”
