Opera in cinemas

Tchaikovsky’s opera,‘The Queen of Spades’is being broadcast live from the Royal Opera House on Tuesday, January 22 in two Perthshire cinemas.

Perth Playhouse and the Birks Cinema in Aberfeldy will show a live performance of the work, which explores the thrill of gambling.

In Stefan Herheim’s stunning production, Tchaikovsky himself is placed at the heart of the action.

The live performance is on January 22 at 6.45pm with an encore screening on Sunday, January 27 at 2pm.

Another operatic great,‘La Traviata’, is broadcast also from the ROH in London on Wednesday, January 30 in both cinemas at 6.45pm. Verdi’s‘La Traviata’depicts the tragic love affair between the dying courtesan Violetta and Alfredo, a young gentleman.

There’s an encore screening on Sunday, February 3 at 2pm.
