Breast cancer course set up

-

Women living with breast cancer are being encouraged to join a course.

Breast Cancer Care is running the course in Dundee, and is hoping as many women as possible from Perth and Kinross will be able to attend.

The free course aims to help women live life with breast cancer and beyond, and provide information and support to woman at the end of their breast cancer treatment.

The course is being run in partnership with NHS Tayside and will include talks from psychologists and dieticians, who will provide expert guidance.

There will also be discussions around adjusting and adapting after a breast cancer diagnosis, managing the ongoing side effects of treatment, and breast awareness after surgery.

Liz Docherty, services development coordinator at Breast Cancer Care, said:“There are an estimated 691,000 people alive after a diagnosis of breast cancer today in the UK.

“The need for support doesn’t end when treatment finishes.

“In fact, it is often the time people need us most.

“From managing menopausal symptoms to intimacy and relationships, this course will cover a range of topics.

“It will be invaluable in helping people affected by cancer approach life after treatment with more confidence.”

The course will take place every Thursday morning for four weeks, and the first class will be‘Moving forward: living with and beyond breast cancer’ on Thursday, February 7 from 9.30am until 1pm in the Jacqui Wood Cancer Centre in Dundee.

There are 16 places on each course and the charity asks that due to high demand, people are able to attend all the sessions.

Although free of charge, it must be pre-booked by calling Breast Cancer Care on 0141 353 8330 or email sco@ breastcancercare.org.uk
