Pizza Hut shuts shop for the last time

-

Pizza Hut in Perth closed down unexpectedly over the weekend.

The chain restaurant based on the city’s Scott Street has shut up shop for the final time.

Signs outside the restaurant have since been removed and the windows covered up.

A poster has been displayed in the windows, saying Perth residents will now have to travel“a short drive”to either the Kingsway Retail Park in Dundee or Springkerse Retail Park in Stirling to enjoy a Pizza Hut meal.

The Dundee restaurant is 21 miles away, and the Stirling outlet is over 35 miles away.

A spokesperson for Pizza Hut Restaurants said:“We continually evaluate the location of our restaurants to ensure they are in the best possible areas to meet consumer demand, and have decided to close our restaurant in Perth after the lease came to an end.

“We are continuing to support our team members and always endeavour to relocate staff where possible.

“Our popular Dundee restaurant is located around half an hour away where consumers can continue to enjoy their favourite pizzas with us.” Cllr Eric Drysdale, who represents the city centre at Perth and Kinross Council, said:“This is another sign of how difficult trading is in our city centres, not just in Perth.

“I am pleased the Scottish Government is proposed a £50 million town centre fund as part of its 2019/20 budget to seek to address issues affecting town centre, but it is a real concern when an international business such as Pizza Hut is struggling to make ends meet in Perth city centre.

“We know there are other restaurants intending to come to Perth, so hopefully they will fill the gap.”

Pizza Hut recommends people travel to Dundee or Stirling for their pizza. And, left, the shut off premises on Scott Street
