It is alleged that between January 8 and 9, at a flat at 11 Grampian Court, the two men assaulted David Goldie by repeatedly striking him on the body, face and head with a blade or sharply pointed instrument to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement - and to the danger of his life.

Reilly faced a second charge of assaulting Police Constables Thomas McCafferty, Grant McGaughay and Fraser Mitchell by throwing the missiles at them whilst he was being arrested on January 9.

A third charge alleges the two men resisted the three officers on January 9 and, over the course of several hours, refused to allow them entry to the flat.

Thereafter, it is claimed the pair barricaded the entry door to the flay, thereby preventing officers from getting in.

The pair appeared separately before Sheriff William Wood. Both made no plea and were remanded in custody.

Police said afterwards that a 37-yearold man had been taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries following an alleged assault.

A 36-year-old woman, also said to have been in the flat, was “assisting” officers with their inquiries.

Residents of Grampian Court were left stunned at the incident on Investigations are still ongoing into the incident Officers arrive on the scene

Wednesday morning. One young resident, said “It was quite scary.”

And her friend added: “I didn’t realise what was happening until we took [my friend’s] brother to school. When we came back it was all taped off and the police told us to go away for a while. So we went to McDonald’s and when we came back the police had to escort us to the house. Usually the police only come around here to pick drunk kids up. You don’t expect to wake up and be in the middle of a crime scene.”
