Speedy start to the new year

Blair­gowrie’s an­nual NewYear’s Day Fun Run and Walk at­tracted par­tic­i­pants from across the re­gion and Scot­land.

In to­tal, there were 245 com­peti­tors – nine short of the record of 254 set in 2013.

The men’s race was won by Billy Gib­son from Dundee in a time of 20 min­utes 55 sec­onds.

In sec­ond place was Mike Her­ron, also from Dundee, in a time of 21 min­utes four sec­onds.

And in third place was Robert Har­ri­son from Rat­tray, who fin­ished in a time of 21 min­utes 11 sec­onds – slightly quicker than his sec­ond place time last year.

In the ladies’race, the win­ner was Michelle Bruce, for­merly Mackay, who com­pleted the route in a time of 22 min­utes and 47 sec­onds – a new best time for the cat­e­gory.

Sec­ond place went to Tracy Mor­gan, who runs with For­far Road Run­ners and fin­ished in 25 min­utes and six sec­onds.

Dundee’s Kirsty Reynolds was third, cross­ing the line in 25 min­utes 36 sec­onds.

The boys’race was dom­i­nated by the Lid­stone broth­ers, both of whom run with Strath­tay Har­ri­ers.

Daniel came home in first place in a time of 24 min­utes 36 sec­onds, with David just 30 sec­onds be­hind him in sec­ond place.

The girls’race was won by Isla Car­roll, who also runs with Strath­tay Har­ri­ers and whose fa­ther Mike is a pre­vi­ous win­ner of the men’s race. Isla’s time was 26 min­utes and 18 sec­onds.
