Coupar manager ups training for Broughty cup game

-

Coupar Angus manager Kevin Lawson was not shying away from the size of the task facing his squad on Saturday afternoon.

The east Perthshire men welcome Super League high-flyers Broughty Athletic to Foxhall Park for East Region League Cup action.

Lawson, who took hold of the Coupar reins at the tail end of last year, is hoping to make life difficult for the visitors from Dundee.

“The Broughty Athletic game will be a real test for us as they are a top quality team with some fantastic players,” Lawson said this week.

“But we have been working hard in training and preparing for this game. With hard work and some luck you never know what can happen on the day.”

Coupar’s league tussle with Forfar Albion was wiped by the weather last week but they did squeeze in a friendly with Tayport. While Lawson watched his players lose the game, he was taking plenty of positives.

“I’ve been really upping the training sessions before and during the winter break,”Lawson said.

“And we had a friendly against Tayport at the weekend where we matched them for the first 60 minutes.

“I then made six changes to the team so I can have a look at other players and our shape fell away a bit.

“We conceded a few goals in the final 25 minutes, but there were a lot of positives to take out of the game.

“Tayport gave us a real test of what to expect from Super League sides - and we will use that going in to the Broughty game.”

Also in the East Region League Cup, Scone Thistle hit the road to take on Arbroath Vics and Blairgowrie travel to play Lochee United.
