‘I’m loving role’ says ex-St Johnstone man
Connor McLaren admits it was an easy decision to extend his stay with Jeanfield Swifts.
The former St Johnstone and Montrose attacker has played a starring role in the first half of the season to sit as the club’s top goalscorer.
Playing regular football has been a welcome boost for McLaren, who is now signed up at the Riverside until the summer of 2020.
He told the Perthshire Advertiser: “I’ve decided to extend my stay because I’m back enjoying football again.
“And I feel we have a team that can push on and be successful.
“It’s the happiest I’ve been in a while and personally I put it down to the role the gaffer and Logan have given me this season.
“They’ve given me a freedom to try score and create chances for the team.
“All of the coaching staff have been first class and made me feel welcome right from the start, as have the boys.
“I’m looking forward to see what happens the rest of the season and working with everyone more. The ideas are fresh and we try to get the ball down and play.”
McLaren is hoping to break through the 30-goal barrier by the end of the season.
He added:“Personally my targets are to improve on what I’ve done in the first half of the season.
“I think I’ve scored 17 goals so far and have a few assists.
“I’d like to score another 20 this year. As for the team the league is priority but a cup run would be nice too.” Connor (left) has linked-up well with team-mates this season
