Voting for Hall of Fame

-

St Johnstone’s hall of fame dinner is fast approaching – and fans now have the chance to vote in their favourites.

Two shortlisted players will be inducted by the supporters’vote while the other three inductees will be chosen directly by the club.

All five will be inducted at the hall of fame dinner at Perth Concert Hall on Saturday, March 16, for which tickets are still available.

Former striker Roddy Grant was inducted into the club’s hall of fame back in 2013 and still remembers the special night.

“It was a fantastic honour for me and, with it being voted by the supporters, it was pleasing to see that I’d contributed to St Johnstone,”he explained to the Perthshire Advertiser.

“Even now, when you look at the board and see the names, I’m absolutely honoured.

“It’s a fantastic night and one which is great for your family and friends too.

“It’s very humbling to get your name called up on the stage. To get presented with the honour from Geoff Brown was very special for me.

“Everyone who has been shortlisted to be inducted into the hall of fame for this year’s event is there on merit.”

Those shortlisted include Robert Campbell, Willie Ormond, Bobby Brown, Sandy McLaren, Charlie McFadyen, Bill‘Buck’McCarry, Benny Rooney, Alex Rennie, Jim Pearson, Don McVicar, John Balavage, Sergei Baltacha, Jim Weir, Danny Griffin, Dave Mackay and Paul Sheerin.

Fans can vote by sending an email to HoF@perthsaints.co.uk or, alternatively, use the provided ballot boxes at the home Scottish Cup clash with Hamilton on Saturday, January 19.

Voting will close immediately after the match. Early ticket sales for the event, which includes a three-course meal, have been strong.

Season ticket holders can purchase tickets from the McDiarmid Park ticket office for the discounted price of £50, while tickets for non-season ticket holders are priced at £60 per person.

Saints’marketing and communications manager Gary Henderson is encouraging supporters to get involved with the big night.

“Supporters wishing to attend the event should purchase their tickets quickly to avoid disappointment,” he said. “It’s going to be a fantastic night as we induct five new members to the club’s Hall of Fame.

“Fans only have until the match with Hamilton Accies to get their votes in.

“It’s important they have their say on who they’d like to see inducted at the dinner on March 16.”

Meanwhile, tickets have gone on sale for Saints’away trip to Tynecastle on Saturday, January 26.

It will be the second meeting of the teams in the capital this season, with Hearts edging a 2-1 win back in September.

Supporters, who will be housed in the upper section of the away end, can purchase their tickets from the ticket office at McDiarmid Park.

Prices are: Adult £28, over 65s £20, U18s £16, U16s £8, U13s £5 and wheelchair plus carer £14.
