Gaffer hails Kinnoull win

-

Kinnoull weathered an early storm to record a 5-2 East Region League Cup victory against West Calder United on Saturday.

And manager Alan Cameron was full of praise for his players who twice came from behind in the opening stages before running out comfortable winners.

The game was switched to an away fixture due to flooding problems at Tulloch Park and playing conditions proved difficult with a strong gust.

But the Perth side showed off their battling qualities having found themselves one down and then 2-1 behind.

Performance levels increased, helped by Mark Smith bagging himself a hat-trick. Ben Ragan and Greg Whyte were also on the scoresheet.

Boss Cameron told the Perthshire Advertiser:“I felt we deserved to win the game. We created so many chances in the second half and I felt we should have killed the game off a lot earlier.

“The lads battled well and kept their composure which was key against a very spirited West Calder United side.

“We showed our fighting qualities after falling behind twice due to the horrific weather conditions but we still should have defended better.

“Mark Smith led the line brilliantly on Saturday afternoon and took his goals extremely well.”

Scone Thistle again showed their quality by running Super League side Carnoustie Panmure close, also in the East Region League Cup.

The Jags had taken the lead through Kevin Sinclair but two goals in the final 10 minutes resulted in the men from Angus securing victory.

Blairgowrie, meanwhile, went down 5-1 against Dundee North End with Gary Axworthy the scorer.

The game was locked at 1-1 heading towards the closing stages before the hosts upped the tempo to run out comfortable winners.

Luncarty’s Premier League North title push remained on track at the weekend when they travelled to Arbroath Vics and picked up a 2-0 win.

An own goal and a Fraser Mills penalty clinched the three points which has the Bleachers sitting one point from the summit of the table.

At the other end, Coupar Angus, who sit bottom, were defeated 6-0 by East Craigie in Dundee.
