Wright: We’veno complaints overcupexit

-

Tommy Wright admits his team were beaten by a far better side after St Johnstone were dumped out of the Scottish Cup.

Celtic showed off their clinical edge to knock five beyond Saints and confine the Perth men to a third defeat in quick succession.

Wright had no complaints about the result and said:“We haven’t helped ourselves with the start and it was important to stay in the game as long as possible.

“To be fair to the players they settled down after losing two quick goals. We had a good chance with Kane and forced a few corners.

“At half-time I make the decision that the next goal is going to be vital. We obviously need to get it to get back in the game.

“We go two up front and try to press them. But they are that good that they still cut you open and we concede two quick goals again.

“Effectively we’ve lost the tie in the first nine minutes with two goals.

“Even though Brown’s goal is a great strike, we should clear our lines better in that situation.

“My players can’t get too disheartened because they were beaten by a far better team.

“They have so much quality. We need to be at our best and they need to have four or five not playing well. That hasn’t been the case.

“While it’s three defeats against them we need to make sure it doesn’t affect us going forward.

“There’s no disgrace in being beaten by a team who, at the minute, are wiping the floor with everybody.”

Saints will have the chance to bounce back from a run of five straight defeats when they head to Ibrox this weekend.

“There’s tough games coming up as well,”Wright said.“The beauty about football is you have an opportunity to get back on track.

“We have an opportunity at Ibrox so we’ll rest, get back to work and work hard from now until the end of the season.”
