THAT WAS SIMPLY SUPER
‘Super Saturday’ a success
Thousands descended on the Fair City this weekend for ‘Super Saturday’.
The forecasted heavy rain held off for most of the day and revellers soaked up the sunshine for the numerous events taking place.
As well as the Pride event, Perth Medieval Fayre returned, turning the city centre back to its historical roots for the day, while he Great Perthshire Tattie Run saw competitors running around Perth City Hall with a sack of spuds on their backs.
There were sporting spectacles as well on Saturday, with the second stage of the cycling Women’s Tour of Scotland finishing on Tay Street, and the Touch of Tartan half marathon, which ran from Perth Airport to the North Inch.
Provost Dennis Melloy said he had really enjoyed celebrating all Perth had to offer on Saturday.
He said: “It was a fantastic experience to be out and about in Perth on ‘Super Saturday’.
“This was primarily a family day showing the city at its best, vibrant, open and welcoming.
“I spoke to many visitors and residents who clearly enjoyed a fantastic day of activity and entertainment. I would like to personally thank our events team and everyone involved in this wonderful day.”
He continued: “It was also a privilege, as provost, to be invited to participate in the ceremony marking the completion of the Perth stage of the Women’s Tour of Scotland.
“It was mentioned to me at the ceremony by the cyclists and the organisers, what a wonderful welcome they received as they progressed through Perthshire.”
Provost Melloy added he wants to see Perth building on the success of this year when organising the 2020 events.
