Petition calls for more recyling points

-

visitors to conveniently put waste where it can be collected for recycling.

“If we had one by Fisher’s Hotel, right in the middle of Pitlochry, and another at Pitlochry Festival Theatre, and others dotted around, tourists would put items in much more than they currently do.

“Also, we could have one at Pitlochry Recreation Ground.”

Carol added: “This is an idea for more than just Pitlochry, we’d like to see mini recycling points at the Birks Cinema in Aberfeldy and at holiday and camping parks in Highland Perthshire.

“With all the extra tourists driving through our area with Heart 200, I think having easy recycling is ever more imperative.

“Basically we want people to sign in support of bringing more recycling facilities to the area. A petition seemed the easiest way to make a point to Perth and Kinross Council that there’s demand for these. We need people to seek the petition out and sign it. The paper petition started at Coffee Break in Pitlochry, but now Kaja Ekiert from Plastic Free Packaging has been taking copies wherever she goes to.”

Kaja confirmed she is busy getting names on the petition: “I have it with me at my pop-up shop and on my stall at markets.

“As yet I haven’t met a single person want to see more recycling facilities in Highland Perthshire who doesn’t think it’s a good idea.”

The petition will also be available at the Big Climate Conversation event in Birnam Arts on Tuesday, August 20.
