Find value of antiques

-

An expert in silver, porcelain and antique glass will be at a Perthshire antique’s centre this month.

Former teacher turned dealer James McIlroy will be available for valuations at the Scottish Antique and Arts Centre in Abernyte on Thursday, August 29.

He will be available to make verbal valuations between 10.30am and 3pm, and in exchange people are asked to make a donation to the Maggie’s Centre in Dundee.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Antique and Arts Centre said:“An ex-teacher, James McIlroy has been a full time dealer since 1983 with a shop in Glasgow before concentrating on exporting to and selling in the USA.

“He‘retired’in 2009 only to discover that you don’t retire from antiques dealing, you die.

“James has always been interested in collecting and selling silver and porcelain and latterly the joys of antique glass.

“Though he likes to think of himself as reasonably knowledgeable he knows that no one ever knows it all in this business and that is the great fun in dealing and always learning.

“James McIlroy will be available on Thursday, August 29 from 10.30am to 3pm to give a verbal valuation on your previous pieces for a donation to Maggie’s Centre, Dundee, of £3 per item.

“Due to the popularity of this subject, we have to restrict each customer to four items for valuing purposes.

“We do hope you will come to the centre where you can visit our Cafe Circa for coffee, lunch or tea and cakes.

“Alternatively, you can visit our wide selection in the home and fashion departments which includes a wide selection of designer goods to suit all tastes.”
