Kinnoull back in action

-

Kinnoull manager Alan Cameron was quick to praise the club’s committee for getting Saturday afternoon’s game on.

The Perth side were in action for the first time in four weekends and made sure it was a winning East of Scotland League return against Coldstream.

Despite heavy rain, the Tulloch Park surface held out well but supporters needed to wait until the second half for any real goalmouth action.

Dale Smart was the man to open the scoring before Ben Ragan and then Rhys Davies rounded off the productive day of work for a 3-0 triumph.

“We were delighted to get the game on and then secure the points,”said Kinnoull boss Cameron. “A special thank you to the committee for their magnificent efforts in ensuring the pitch was playable.

“We started the game very well and were on the front foot but without creating anything and, to Coldstream’s credit, they limited us to a couple of long range efforts.

“Both teams cancelled each other out for the majority of the first half.”

Some firm words at half-time did the trick and Cameron added:“We talked about our work-rate and the fact we needed a bit more quality on the ball at half-time. The lads upped both from the first whistle in the second half.

“We took a deserved lead through an opportunist strike from Dale Smart who turned, swivelled and fired home across the keeper.

“The second goal which effectively killed the game was all down to the timing of Rhys Davies’run. He left the defence for dead and then drew the keeper and unselfishly squared for Ben Ragan to get the easiest of goals.

“Late on Rhys got the goal his work-rate deserved with a poachers’ finish after a goal-mouth scramble.

“Overall it was a fully deserved win and one that we needed to try and keep in touch with the teams above us.”

Jeanfield Swifts’trip to Dundonald Bluebell was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
