Timeline update onA90 flyover

Work may not begin on the St Madoes/Glencarse flyover until August 2020.

The A90 flyover was shut for several weeks last year after structural damage to two major beams when it was struck by a vehicle transporting an excavator on October 31.

It then reopened one lane with a traffic lights system at the end of last year but there are suggestions these may remain until late summer.

Carse of Gowrie councillor Alasdair Bailey has been asking Transport Scotland for updates on what is happening with the flyover.

This week he received a statement from Transport Scotland which read:“Tenders went out on February 18 with a six-week tender period and it will be early April before the contract is awarded once governance checks are completed.

“A programme of works will be available on appointment of the successful contractor and the design and fabrication of the replacement beams will need to be undertaken before works start in earnest on site.

“Our estimate for site mobilisation is August but this will be confirmed when the successful contractor’s programme is received.”

Following this response, the Labour councillor told the LDRS: “I’m reassured that we have an approximate timeline now and that work is ongoing behind the scenes to fix the bridge fully and do away with the traffic lights.

“I’ll continue to monitor the situation, although the bridge isn’t owned by the council so there are limits to what the council can do if these timelines slip.”

A spokesperson for BEAR Scotland said: “We are currently liaising with contractors interested in tendering for the works to repair the damaged bridge on the A90.

“Once the successful contractor has been appointed the repair programme can then be finalised.

“We’ll share further details to all relevant stakeholders once available.

“We thank all residents, local businesses and motorists for their patience while we arrange for the repairs to take place.”
