A Perthshire charity is urging residents to use its ‘bright blue container’ and help the fight against climate change.

Remake Scotland is a Crieff-based community reuse charity run by local volunteers and staff.

Its purpose is to promote the reuse of materials for the benefit of the community

The container, at Crieff Recycling Centre, might not look magical but amazing things happen when items are placed in it.

Fiona Gilbert, development manager at Remake Scotland, said: “First of all, fewer reusable things end up in landfill – nearly 10 tonnes of items have been diverted since Remake opened the container in May 2019.

“Next, every item is cleaned, quality checked and made available to buy in our Revolve-certified store at Crieff Visitor Centre.

“Revolve is a Scottish nationwide scheme run by Zero Waste Scotland to support buying secondhand as a first choice.

“This means that people can be confident that they are buying good quality items – saving money whilst saving the planet – win-win.”

The container is open for drop-off whenever the recycling centre is open: Monday–Friday 9am–7pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am5pm. If the container is closed because it is full, items can also be dropped off at Remake during our opening hours: Wednesday 10am2pm, Thursday 10am-6pm, Friday 10am-2pm and Saturday 10am-4pm.

Fiona continued: “We ask for all donations to be clean, dry and in good working order.

“We accept solid wood furniture like (small) wardrobes, chests of drawers, cupboards, tables and chairs.

“If chairs are upholstered, they do need to have a fire label in place so please check the underside before placing in the container.

“Clean curtains, fabric, craft items, jewellery, clocks, small electrical items, DIY items, hand and power tools and garden implements are always in demand.

“We also love architectural salvage.

“Of course, we cannot take anything broken or rusty.

“Other items that we cannot accept include IT equipment/printers, TVs/ CD/DVD players, videos/ DVDs/CDs, kitchen electricals and pots/pans, clothes, bedding, toys, books, ornaments and brica-brac.

Many of these things will be accepted by local charity shops instead.”
