Online sessions aimed at keeping kids safe

- RACHEL AMERY

Parents and those who work with children are being invited along to an internet safety seminar.

‘Getting it right, keeping your child safe’ will be at Perth Playhouse on Thursday, March 5.

Parents, carers, family members and professionals working with children and young people are all encouraged to attend the event, which will include presentations from online experts.

The topics covered will include cyber awareness, a personal account of online grooming and child sexual exploitation, and how to be resilient in a digital world.

All of the presentations on the day will explore the current challenges in keeping children safe online.

The speakers will include Rhiannon-Faye McDonald, a subject matter expert from The Marie Collins Foundation, Justin Leary, the head of intelligence at Dark Beam, Michael Conlon, a digital learning and technology officer, and Susie Turner, principal educational psychologist at Perth and Kinross Council.

Councillor Caroline Shiers, convener of lifelong learning at Perth and Kinross Council said: “‘Getting it right, keeping your child safe’ has been running for a number of years and has given parents, carers, family members and professionals a real insight into the potential issues they need to be aware of to help children and young people stay safe online.

“That awareness is vital in today’s rapidly changing digital environment and I hope the 2020 seminar will again be a useful and enlightening event for all who attend.”

There will be three identical two-hour sessions throughout the day at 8.30am, 1pm and 5.30pm.

Places on the seminar can be booked online through Eventbrite.
