Bar plan is approved

- PAUL CARGILL

A businesswoman who runs a gift shop in Kinross is one step closer to setting up a bar after getting planning permission from council officials.

Fiona Cameron-Bowman applied for consent to partly change the use of her Avant Garde Gifts shop in the town’s High Street earlier this year, so she can serve customers craft beers, wine and speciality gin and rum during regular pub hours.

She told PKC in a supporting statement: “I would like to enhance our product offerings with the ability to include various local and Scottish craft beers, gins, rum etc, for off-sales which were very popular in our original shop, and to add champagne/prosecco to our afternoon tea options.

“I would also like to be able to adapt the tearoom into a wine bar in the evenings, which is a feature currently missing in Kinross.”

Planning officials have now granted Ms CameronBowman consent for the change but have applied a condition requiring her to send them a noise management plan.

An unnamed officer said in their report of handling: “I do not consider a condition in relation to hours of operation necessary due to the times sought and the use being appropriate for the evening economy in a town centre location.

“Overall, it is considered that the recommended conditions can suitably protect residential amenity and thus I have no adverse concerns.

“It is also noted that no letters of representation were received regarding the proposed development.”
