Good news for school leavers
More school leavers from the Perth and Kinross are finding positive destinations - in study, work or training - than a decade ago.
The statistics, released by the Scottish Government, show a record proportion of young people were in a positive destination three months after leaving school last year.
The gap between those from the most and least deprived communities achieving a positive destination is the lowest since 2009-10.
In Perth and Kinross, the number of unemployed school leavers seeking work fell from 8.2 per cent in 2009/10 to just one per cent in 2018/19, and the percentage of school leavers finding a positive destination was 97.5 per cent, one of the highest in the country and a significant increase on the 88.6 per cent of 10 years ago.
Roseanna Cunningham MSP, for the Perthshire South and Kinross-shire constituency (pictured), welcomed the improvement.
She said: “It is very welcome news indeed to see the significant progress that has been made in the last 10 years with more young people in the Perth and Kinross Council area going on to positive destinations such as work and study straight from school.
“For the ninth consecutive year, more young Scots are in study, training or work three months after leaving school than ever before and in Perth and Kinross we have one of the highest figures in the country, at 97.5 per cent, up from 88.6 per cent10 years ago.
“That is a significant advance on what was an already high number,
“It’s particularly pleasing to note that the gap between the richest and poorest communities continues to narrow in this regard.”
