Volunteer to help protect woodland

A day of volunteeri­ng in a picturesqu­e Perthshire woodland will take place later this month.

Perthshire rangers will be running a day of conservati­on work and tree planting at Dun Coillich Community Woodland on Saturday, March 21.

Volunteers will be able to join them from 10am until 2pm for the work.

Those interested are asked to wear outdoor clothing, walking boots and bring a packed lunch.

Volunteers should meet at the Loch of the Lowes visitor centre near Dunkeld.

The day is free of charge but must be booked in advance by contacting perthshire­ranger@scottishwi­ld lifetrust.org.uk

The family of the late Ruby Stewart are calling on the people of Perthshire to be more like Ruby - and raise money for a good cause at the same time.

Ruby, from Inchture, died on Friday, January 3 after battling with stage four alveolar rhabdomyos­arcoma, a rare form of cancer.

She had been admitted to the high dependency unit at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee only days before Christmas, but sadly passed away in the new year.

Since her death, her loved ones have been running a campaign called ‘Be More Ruby’, encouragin­g people to be inspired by her infectious smile, and to raise money for more research into the devastatin­g disease.

Now, those behind the campaign are organising a group to take part in Ruby’s Mud Run on Saturday, May 16.

Those taking part will be raising money for Childhood Cancer and Leukaemia Group’s ‘Super Ruby’s Rhabdo Raiser,’ a special fund set up in Ruby’s name to raise money for the specific kind of cancer she had.
