Bin collections missed three times in a month
Residents in Alyth have had kerbside bin collections missed three times a month due to issues with bin lorries.
Perth and Kinross Council’s waste services team was unable to complete the scheduled bin pick-ups in the eastern Perthshire village on February 3 and February 17.
The bins were then also missed on March 2.
Each time, residents were told this was because of “operational reasons”and were told to leave their bins out on the kerbside.
Perth and Kinross Council has blamed“various vehicle defects and breakdowns”for the issue.
A spokesperson said:“The reason for the recent missed bin collections in the Alyth area have been due to various vehicle defects and breakdowns, however as per our bin policy we advised residents that were affected to keep their bins out for a further 48 hours, and were subsequently able to go back the next day to complete the collections.
“In the current financial year to date, the council’s waste team has completed 5,317,312 bin collections throughout Perth and Kinross.
“The number of enquires of missed bin collections for this financial year is 2960 to date, or 0.06 per cent overall.
“Since the start of 2019, we have used a new reporting procedure in a concentrated effort to better inform our residents if there is an issue with their scheduled collection using our social media channels.
“While we understand that by proactively sharing this information, it may appear that we have had an increase in missed collections, we would like to reassure our residents that our waste team makes every effort to collect bins on scheduled days.”
