Praise for PKAVS on period products
PKAVS was“delighted”to get a visit from MSP Alexander Stewart, who praised the organisation’s efforts to see sanitary items made freely available to everyone.
PKAVS supported over 600 local women, getting their voices heard as part of a national consultation pushing for wider availability of free products for periods.
The Perth-born MSP visited PKAVS last Friday.
He discussed the recent Scottish Parliament local government and communities committee community consultation on period poverty and the Period Products Bill.
Mr Stewart remarked:“PKAVS has done a fantastic job in organising and leading the consultation and engagement in Perth and Kinross around the free access to sanitary products scheme.
“The recent Scottish Parliament committee event gave us the opportunity to hear first-hand from local women and girls about their experiences with period poverty, period dignity and menstrual wellbeing.
“It is thanks to the efforts of PKAVS that over 600 local women and girls have had the opportunity to have their voices heard on such an important issue.
“PKAVS fulfils a vital role in Perth and Kinross in empowering local communities of interest to influence local and national decision-making.”
Paul Graham, chief executive of PKAVS and co-chair of Perth and Kinross Community Planning Partnership, said:“PKAVS appreciates the ongoing support of Alexander Stewart and other elected officials in their commitment to engaging with the third sector in addressing issues of equality and access.
“We believe that people of all backgrounds and their communities should have opportunities.”
