Three-night closure for A9 project

-

A Perthshire road is set to be closed for three nights next week as part of works to dual the A9.

Temporary traffic lights and a road closure will be in place on the C408 Murthly Road to make way for installing concrete bridge beams on the A9.

These closures will take place on Tuesday, March 10, Wednesday, March 11 and Thursday, March 12, and are part of the ambitious plans to dual the A9 between Luncarty and the Pass of Birnam.

During these works there will be no access in or out of Bankfoot via the north junction.

A spokesperson for Transport Scotland said: “Road users should be aware that the C408 Murthly Road will be closed overnight and temporary traffic signals will be deployed on the A9 for three nights.

“The C408 will be closed overnight between Innewan Gardens and the C408 Murthly Road junction - either side of the existing Hunters Lodge underbridge, from 8.30pm to 6am on Tuesday, March 10, Wednesday, March 11 and Thursday, March 12.

“These closures are necessary to safely install concrete bridge beams to extend the structure at Hunters Lodge underbridge in Bankfoot, as part of the A9 dualling Luncarty to Pass of Birnam project.

“As a result, there will be no access to or from Bankfoot via the A9 Bankfoot north junction.

“In addition, temporary traffic signals will also be in place on the A9 between Gelly overbridge and Bankfoot whilst we undertake these important works.

“These will be manually operated to minimise disruption to traffic.”

Diversions for A9 southbound traffic for Bankfoot will be via the B867 and for HGVs via the Luncarty junction and the A9 northbound.

For those travelling from Bankfoot to the A9 southbound, the diversion will be via the three-way traffic signals at the Bankfoot south junction.

Local access between Bankfoot and Murthly will be via the C408 Murthly Road and then diversions via the A9 and B867.

And access between the B9099 and the A9 at Bankfoot north junction will be maintained, along with pedestrian access, with pedestrians being escorted through the works when it is safe to do so.

Transport Scotland added:“These works are weather dependent and therefore may be postponed at short notice.

“Road users should approach the area with care, follow the diversion signage, and allow extra time for their journey.”
