Coffee morning was a hugesuccess
I would be grateful if I could once again use your newspaper to thank all the people who came to the fundraising coffee morning organised by Friends of Aytoun Hall last Saturday, March 7.
I am always amazed at the number of volunteers in the town who come forward to help when we ask for it.
A big thank you to them for their community spirit.
I should also thank those who could not come, but who gave donations in lieu of their presence.
On the day we cleared £650, which will go a long way towards operating the charity for another year
Our next event will be in collaboration with the Community School of Auchterarder on Thursday, June 11 and Friday, June 12 when there will be lunch time concerts taking place (entry by donation); a different programme for each day. Concerts will commence at 12.30pm in the Aytoun Hall.
There are three vacancies on the Friends of Aytoun Hall Management Committee.
Anyone interested in contributing to their primary community venue would be welcome.
Call me on 01764 663049.

House of Commons; the House of Lords is secondary, with limited powers to debate, question and delay bills.
Why therefore do we have so many Lords? It is almost unbelievable that taxpayers should support so many peers when they are members of the less important chamber.
A very popular move by Boris Johnson would be to cut the number of members of the House of Lords at least by half. A reduced limit should then be decided upon and no new life peers added beyond that limit.
That way we could save taxpayers money and still have a workable system of checks and balances without the enormous numbers now involved.
