Jeanfield cup joy

-

Logan McConachie pointed to free-flowing football as Jeanfield Swifts booked their place in round three of the East of Scotland League Cup.

The Perth club’s assistant boss was pleased with the performance in a 4-2 weekend victory against Crossgates at the Riverside.

Chris McLeish, Connor McLaren, Chris Dodd and Scott Smith netted the all-important goals for Swifts.

“It had been a good few weeks since last playing competitively and a win starts us off on a good step for the busy schedule of games,”said McConachie.

“The most pleasing thing about Saturday was the chances created. We were playing free-flowing football from the word go.

“And although Crossgates were very competitive, it never felt like we were going to lose the tie.

“Four different scorers is great to see but, more importantly, we had players willing to do unselfish runs and passes to give the team a greater chance of scoring.”

McConachie expects Dodd, who recently re-joined Swifts from Kelty Hearts, to continue to improve as the season goes on.

He said:“Chris has been a breath of fresh air to the team. His enthusiasm, professionalism and attitude has been infectious.

“We all know what Chris can bring to the team in terms of his ability and he has been getting back to his best after getting a few full games under his belt.

“I fully expect him to be netting a few more before the season has finished.”

Kinnoull travelled to take on Preston Athletic on Saturday but the teams could not be separated, finishing with a point each after a 0-0 stalemate in an inter-conference league fixture.
