Historic church is still on the market
An iconic 200-year-old Perthshire church failed to sell when it went up for auction last week.
The former Redgorton and Stanley Parish Church went under the hammer last Thursday, but will now be re-listed on May 14.
It had been hoped the building would sell for £75,000 with a view of turning it into luxury flats.
The selling agents, Online Property Auctions Scotland (OPAS), described the building as:“Rarely available landmark former church building in the heart of the idyllic Perthshire town of Stanley. Ideal for flats or incredible mansion house.
“Excellent possible development potential over 7800 sq ft in size with traditional features retained. Current duplex layout over two floors and further bell tower.”
OPAS describes the former church as: “one of the most unique and incredible development opportunities to be brought to the market in recent years.
“This property is likely to attract substantial interest from local and national developers seeking a bespoke opportunity to create something special, subject to gaining necessary building and planning consents.”
The PA previously reported that church bosses asked specialists to remove the clock“of significant historical interest”from the church so it can be repaired and put on public display.
The Church of Scotland has applied to Perth and Kinross Council for listed building consent so professionals can remove the 170-year-old clock from the church tower“for its own protection”. Tmove comes four years after the B-listed building sustained serious damage during Storm Frank and bosses chose to close it for good after concluding it was“beyond reasonable economic repair”.
