Perth and Kinross Council is changing the way its bin crews complete rounds due to COVID-19.

Residents have been told the changes will be seen over the next fortnight.

Additional vehicles will be used to take a second loader to jobs with the council having already moved to having just one driver and one loader in a bin lorry to ensure social distancing.

A spokesperson for the council said an additional 20 vehicles and 20 drivers will be on the roads, with the drivers redeployed from other services.

The spokesperson said: “Please consider where you park your car and where you present your bin to make collections as straightforward as possible for our crews.

“While staff get used to this new way of working, we may take a little longer than usual to complete our routes. You can help by making sure your bin is out for collection for 7.30am on the morning of uplift.

“If we don’t manage to empty it on the scheduled day, please leave it out at the presentation point and we will endeavour to return on another day to collect it.

“The safety and wellbeing of our staff is paramount. They have been doing an excellent job in continuing to provide services under unprecedented conditions.”
