Chef serves up a treat

- MELANIE BONN

Local chef and businessman Praveen Kumar has been supplying free food to staff at Perth Royal Infirmary.

Praveenhas been filling a freezer in the doctors’mess at PRI with frozen Indian meals to keep the hard-working NHS staff going.

The meals are available free of charge to all hospital staff, who can take a meal from the freezer and reheat it in the mess microwave, giving them a proper feed on their long shifts.

Praveen and his wife Swarna delivered the first batch of meals to the hospital on Thursday and they have already proved very popular.

The plan was arranged by one of the staff at www. praveenkumar.com, Sanjay Bhattacharya, whose girlfriend Olivia is also a junior doctor at NHS Tayside.

Sanjay explained:“I heard from Liv that lots of the hospital staff didn’t have time to make meals for themselves to take in to work, and the canteen food is miserable.

“I thought Praveen could help out, and he instantly agreed to donate these meals. I’m glad we can make their work a bit better for our hardworking healthcare professionals.’’

Praveen, founder of Tabla Restaurant and the Indian Cook School, said:“We are proud to do our part in supporting our local key workers - the least we can do is ensure they have a tasty meal at the end of their long shifts, and who doesn’t love a curry?‘‘

He explained that all key workers across the UK can get 25 per cent off the cost of orders from the online food company praveenkumar. com when they use the special discount code KYWRK25.

Their order will be delivered frozen via next-day delivery, and can be left at the door so no-one needs to be in to collect it.
