GIVE AND TAKE BOXES

Give and Take Food Boxes have been popping up around North Inch and Muirton thanks to an initiative by North Inch and Muirton Community Council and Zero Waste Perth.

Local residents are being asked to contribute what they can in terms of nonperisha­bles to fellow residents who are at-risk and in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are boxes at: Riverside Church; Tulloch Co-op; North Muirton Co-op; near the Premier store at the junction of Florence Place and Balhousie Street; Dunkeld Road near the shops (across from Rae Place); Gowans Terrace at Perth Grammar School; Gowans Terrace near St John’s Campus; Barrack Street in front of the BP garage; Dunkeld Road in front of Asda; the junction of Atholl Street and Barossa Street.

Any local groups or businesses interested in hosting a box can get in touch by private message through either Zero Waste Perth’s Facebook page or via the North Inch and Muirton Community Council’s Facebook page.

Community Council have set up a hotline to try and provide support for people in need in the area across the Tay from Perth city centre.

Loving Your Neighbour has a hotline number - 0752165410­5 - for older people in isolation wanting either to talk or to get essential shopping or medication delivered to their homes.

LETHAM COMMUNITY FRIDGE

The Community Fridge4All will be run for the benefit of Letham residents and is part of a growing movement of community fridges across the UK.

Five main groups have now been establishe­d in Perth to support those selfisolat­ing during the coronaviru­s crisis.

Each group is offering assistance to those in isolation with shop and drop (or access to community fridges), prescripti­on collection­s and friendly telephone calls.

The work is being supported by Perth and Kinross Council Health and Social Care Partnershi­p.

The groups are: Perth City North (covering Letham, Tullloch, Fairfield, Muirton, North Muirton and Bertha Park); Perth City Centre; Perth City South (covering Craigie, Friarton, Moncrieffe and Cherrybank); Perth City East (covering Bridgend, Kinnoull and Gannochy); Perth City West (covering the Western Edge and Oakbank).

A dozen local community organisati­ons have joined together to create the different groups.

The groups involved are: Bridgend, Gannochy and Kinnoull Community Council; Kinnoull Parish Church; Letham4All; Loving Your Neighbour Group; National Christian Outreach Centre (The Mustard Seed); North Muirton Community Council; North Perth COVID-19 Group; Perth Baptist Church; Perth North Church; Riverside Church; St Mary’s Monastery; Tulloch Net.

PERTH GOSPEL HALL

Soup kitchens on Mondays (Thimblerow car park) and Wednesdays (Letham) are currently cancelled, but anyone who normally attends, or any others in the community who are struggling, can contact us and we’ll drop a bag of groceries off on their doorstep.

Update videos and online sermons are posted on our Facebook page and website throughout the week, and an online Sunday school is posted up for children on Sundays at 2.30pm.

Rev Graham Crawford has been live streaming worship now for over a year and is continuing to live stream a 20 – 30 minute services of meditation­s and prayers every Sunday at 10.30am.

MUTHILL VOLUNTEERS

A network of volunteers has been organised in Muthill by Corrina Robertson and Dee Taylor. Volunteers are allocated to a specific street and have leafleted each house in their area offering to help collect shopping or medicines and giving their phone contact details. All streets in Muthill are covered and there is a reserve list of volunteers if some have to self-isolate.

MUTHILL PARISH CHURCH

The church operates a network of care whereby the church elders are allocated a section of the congregati­on. The elders are in contact with their members, especially at this time to provide support to those who need it. Some of the church groups are staying in contact through social media and conferenci­ng software and the weekly service is being published on YouTube.
