Ian’s latest mural is a tribute to NHS
Nurse is portrayed in work
A Perth artist has designed a mural in dedication to NHS staff fighting on the front line against the coronavirus.
Ian Cuthbert Imrie (82) unveiled his artwork on Glover Street this week which portrays the image of an NHS nurse with the words: “Not all angels have wings”.
The artist has previously unveiled work in the Fair City, including eyecatching portraits of Jimi Hendrix David Bowie, John Lennon and Michael Jackson.
He said: “It is an appreciation of the work the NHS workers have done with the image of the girl with the mask.
“I got in touch with Perth and Kinross Council over the image which I wanted to put up.
“It is just a thank you for everything they’ve done and continue to do.”
Mr Imrie was talking after he was invited to become a member of an online group called ‘World Graffiti’, which showcases work from talented artists from around the world.
“It is quite prestigious really,” he said.
“It is artists from all over the world - Los Angles, Tokyo, Barcelona or wherever.
“And to be invited to be a member of that group is pretty cool really.
“It is a high standard. What happens is they have a Facebook page, and you post a piece of art on their page and it goes all around the world.
“It is very prestigious from an artistic point of view.
“They look at your work and they make a decision on that.
“Being an artist it is like any branch of the arts: you can be brilliant but you don’t get discovered.
“It is like music.
“I want to be judged by those in my profession.
“Whatever you think of my work, it is a high standard.
“And that has been recognised by the World Graffiti group.
“Every time I get something put up it promotes Perth.
“Anybody can join but not any artist can have work posted, it is up to them what goes up.”
It is just a thank you for everything they’ve done and continue to do
