Bestteam tookcrown

The best team was crowned winners of the East of Scotland League’s Conference A, according to Kinnoull manager Alan Cameron.

Final positions were determined on an average points per game basis after it was decided to cut the season short due to the coronavirus outbreak.

That resulted in leaders Lothian Thistle HV taking the title and Kinnoull ending in third for what was their first campaign in the set-up.

“Several teams in the league will have different viewpoints on it,” Cameron told the PA.

“I said to the assistants when we were chatting about it at the weekend that, as far as I’m concerned, the best team won the league.

“They were the one team we played this season - I’ll include teams from a higher level - that completely outplayed us.

“They were down to 10 men for about 50 minutes but we never laid a glove on them. They were really far ahead of us.

“We’ve played all the teams in the league and I think they are the best out of the lot. Fair play to them and we sent them a message wishing them all the best.”

Cameron has been pleased with how his players - and the club - have adapted to life in the East of Scotland League having left the junior ranks.

“The club has done well and the committee and guys working behind the scenes have all put in a lot of effort,” he said. “With regards to the players, they have been outstanding for the majority of the season.

“For our first season in the league, I think we have acquitted ourselves quite well and now we just need to look forward to the next season.

“We’ve set a couple of wee challenges and the players have been competing with each other. It has kept everyone motivated and interested.

“We all know the season is over, but the players need to look after themselves.”
