Full Monty movers are musical hit

Villagers recreate‘Hot Stuff ’scene

- DOUGLAS DICKIE

Residents of a Strath village have proved they are ‘Hot Stuff’ with a musical lockdown video.

The Full Monty provided the inspiration in Blackford, with members of the community coming together to create a clip based on the hit 1997 comedy.

Using the famous scene in a Sheffield job centre as inspiration – where the characters can’t help but get carried away when Donna Summer’s ‘Hot Stuff ’ comes on the radio – the group was filmed dancing while queuing outside the village shop.

Gordon Roy, who is a member of a number of local groups, was involved in the creation of the video.

He explained: “There had been some mentions about how, when you stand in a queue, you get that synchronised movement, with everyone stepping forward to the next white line at the same time.

“The challenge was really laid down when a family across the street from the shop noticed it.

“We posted on the private Blackford Cares Facebook page asking for people who wanted to take part. We had to block the comments because so many people volunteered.

“We filmed it on Saturday outside Blackford Village Stores, which is run by Zed Hussain and is a real part of the community.

“It was nice to get Zed involved. He was talked into a bit even as we were filming. It was great to get him in there.”

The 52-second clip shows a number of residents waiting patiently outside the store while maintaining social distancing.

As the music comes on, the groove sparks a lively response and one local even mimics Tom Wilkinson’s character in the movie, performing a spin at the end.

“On Facebook, the villagers are really proud of it,” added Gordon, whose feet are actually the only part of him to appear.

“Folk are really enjoying it.”

Like every community across the country, Blackford is having to adjust to a ‘new normal’.

But Gordon reckons the community has steppedup to the plate.

He said people have utilised their own skills to help others and boost spirits, and he thnks the village may even come out of lockdown even stronger.

However, he recognises that might not be the case for everyone.

He said: “The village has responded very well.

“There’s a real spirit of folk looking after their neighbours and chatting to each other, within the rules.

“I think Blackford will come out of this stronger, while recognising that some are still struggling.

“I can’t speak for everyone in the village, and we’re trying to fill the cracks people might fall through. I just hope folk haven’t dropped through the gaps.”
