Creativity helps keep lockdown learning going

- KATHRYN ANDERSON

Perth and Kinross schools have been working hard to make sure pupils have the supplies they need for homeschooling.

Sharing sheds and boxes have popped up all over the region filled with resources to keep children going as they work from home.

Vital materials have been placed in shops, community hubs and schools for pupils and families to help themselves.

Perth’s North Muirton PS was one of the first schools to get the ball rolling when it placed a box in the Argyll Road Co-op on April 20 stocked with jotters, pencils and other useful stationery.

Last week, Kinloch Rannoch Primary School launched its ‘Sharing Shed’.

The shed is filled with games, resources, jotters, books and“all sorts of lovely things”for pupils to take home and use.

Nursery learning packs were also added with news of P1-4 and P5-7 packs coming soon.

And there is, of course, a bottle of hand sanitiser for folks to use, before and after accessing the resources. Last week St Madoes PS dropped off a box at the Madoch Centre’s community larder. Their box of goodies was filled with whiteboards, whiteboard pens, jotters , pencils, colouring in pencils and pens, rubbers, sharpeners and glue sticks.

And just this week a box was left at the door of Forgandenny PS for families to help themselves to jotters and stationery. There was even a book swap.

These are just some of the schools who have shared materials. Many Perth and Kinross schools have followed suit and the move has been well received by families and the local community.
