They’ve gown the extra mile to help docs

-

A Perthshire medical practice has received bespoke gowns after locals heard they needed essential kit.

GP surgeries in Perthshire are still open and GPs are still seeing patients and making home visits. But worryingly they don’t have extra supplies of PPE.

In Aberfeldy, a conversation between Alison Stewart of Covid-19 Feldy Support and practice nurse Meg Dougall sounded the alarm.

Meg provided a sample, Tracy Shepherd made the pattern, local wool and fabric firm Karelia House donated some material. Covid-19 Support put a call out and 35 volunteer sewers were soon cutting and stitching. The fabric to hand was the correct material in a cheery red colour, not the regulation NHS blue but no-one minded this detail.

The first 15 of a 45 order of‘frocks for docs’have been delivered.

Doctors Dave Ashcroft and Vicki Cox, and practice nurses Meg Dougall and Alison Parmley at Aberfeldy Medical Practice, couldn’t wait to try on their protective gowns when they were delivered on Monday.

Now 40 gowns will go to care staff at Dalweem Care Home and 20 for the local Abbeyfield home, plus another 16 for local carers.
