Film will record response
Residents in Blairgowrie and Rattray are being asked to take part in a new project which aims to record the town’s response to the global coronavirus outbreak.
A film documenting the impact of COVID-19 and the lockdown restrictions imposed as part of nationwide efforts to tackle the pandemic on the local area is being put together.
And those behind the initiative are keen to hear from anyone who has any pictures or video footage that could be included as part of the film.
It is hoped that the film will be a lasting reminder of how the town coped during what has been an unprecedented experience for many.
The film is the brainchild of Lesley McDonald from the Proactive Communities group, which is part of the Blairgowrie and Rattray Business Association.
Other local businesses and organisations involved include Kelly McIntyre Photography, Go Blairgowrie, the Blairgowrie Advertiser and Discover Blairgowrie.
Speaking to our sister paper the Blairgowrie Advertiser, Lesley explained:“Throughout the past weeks and months there has been a palpable sense of community spirit within our town.
“Social media and the Blairgowrie Advertiser have been full of stories of the community coming together to help and support everyone.
“We have all seen the videos of street bingo, clapping for the NHS, photos of the beautiful scenery around the town as people walk and cycle more, the lockdown caterpillars at the primary schools, the rainbows, the community larders, Zoom meetings and online workshops, online music sessions and much, much more.
“For me this is something to be captured, recognised and recorded for posterity and the idea of a film pulling all this together came about.
“Although we already have lots of material that we can use, we are looking for local folk to send in their memorable moments and pictures from during lockdown.
“Perhaps you were involved in the dancing in Honeyberry on a Thursday evening, or you have been fundraising, volunteering or supporting a neighbour, or maybe you celebrated a significant birthday or wedding anniversary during lockdown, or your big day has been cancelled.
“We would also like to hear from people about how they have coped with various aspects of lockdown.
“Whatever your story is and whatever you are comfortable sharing with us and generations to come, we would love to hear from you.”
Local videographer Kelly will also be interviewing some of those involved in the Blairgowrie and Rattray Coronavirus Co-ordination Group on their experiences of dealing with the impact of the lockdown restrictions on the community.
Anyone who would like to get involved in the project can send their photos and videos to the Discover Blairgowrie Facebook page or email admin@discoverblairgowrie.co.uk
