(‘Parking fees to return’, Perthshire Advertiser, July

14) criticises the Conservative administration for the decision to reinstate parking charges from August 1 together with the previously agreed price increase.

That decision was taken by the chief executive under emergency powers, not the administration, and it may interest Mr Wishart to know that I was present at the meeting where this decision was announced and requested the chief executive to consider delaying the reintroduction of parking charges.

I was supported in this by Cllr Colin Stewart (Independent Conservative).

However, no such support was forthcoming from the SNP councillor also present at that meeting.
