Five projects are the latest beneficiaries of a special fund designed to support communities in the a part of Perthshire.

Members of 1st Auchterarder Rainbows, 2nd Auchterarder Rainbows, Auchterarder Bloom Association, Auchterarder Community Sport and Recreation (ACSR) and Auchterarder Parish Church all received donations from Auchterarder and District Community Trust.

The bloom group received the money to assist with its revamp of the area of the Lang Toon known as Gary’s Corner, while ACSR will use its portion to support the town’s Sports Hub, and the church its ongoing grassroots efforts in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The two Rainbows groups will use their grants to help fund the girls’ activities once meetings resume as lockdown restrictions continue to ease.

Auchterarder and District Community Trust was set up in 2008 to support those helping to benefit the Lang Toon and its wider catchment area – including Aberuthven and Glendevon – using money set aside by local developments, including the GWest resort.

The trust, which meets to consider grants three times a year – in January, May and September – has now awarded a combined total of almost £350,000 across 83 different projects since its inception

Would-be applicants do not require to be registered charities, although projects need to be charitable in nature in order to be considered, and there is no minimum or maximum donation.

A spokesperson said: “The trustees are keen to ensure there is a regular succession of serving trustees and also to ensure that the trustees are representative of our whole local community.

“If you’d like to help the trust stay relevant to the community it supports, why not consider becoming a trustee?

“The trust currently meets to consider grants three times a year – in January, May, and September – the substantial funds held in trust mean there is no maximum or minimum donation, so please get thinking on projects that could benefit local residents.”
