Craig Conway has shown the required energy and quality since arriving at McDiarmid Park on trial.

That was the message from Callum Davidson yesterday as the St Johnstone manager casts a watchful eye over the former Scotland international.

Conway (35), most recently of Salford City, has been training with Saints and played in a bounce game between squad members over the weekend.

New boss Davidson was impressed with the winger’s ability in the hour-long match which saw recent loan signing Isaac Olaofe net twice.

“Craig has been looking good,” Davidson said. “He has a composure about him that comes with experience and he still has the energy required.

“He put in a couple of unbelievable crosses and his movement was good in a 60-minute weekend bounce game.

“But I have to make sure I don’t rush him. I’d kick myself if I did that and he started to pick up niggles while he’s in here.

“The game was a good exercise, played at a really good tempo and I was pleased
