Of opportunity to get creative
Help spread Christmas cheer in these dark times
People in Kinross have made a big effort to cheer up residents on these dark evenings with their Light up the Night Kinross-shire event, where people put displays in their windows.
Organiser KLEO (Kinross-shire Local Events Organisation) encouraged everyone to get involved.
“The idea is that private houses, businesses and organisations across Kinross are invited to ‘light up the night’ with lights and crafty designs using a front window, visible to neighbours and passers-by,” explained Bouwien Bennet of KLEO.
“Let’s create a festive atmosphere in the town in the lead up to Christmas which can provide a great opportunity to walk around after dusk and enjoy a lights display trail from a distance.”
The majority of businesses and homes were looking their best on November 28 and 29 when dozens of people enjoyed walking around Kinross, admiring picture windows from the street.
On Saturday night there were about 200 markers on a special online map of the town, each a window specially made for Light Up the Night.
Over in Milnathort, around 50 windows were decorated too.
Light Up the Night Kinross-shire Facebook page was alive with images of everyone’s efforts.
Page administrator Esther Blackburn wrote: “We had a great time hunting for decorated windows last night. It was amazing to see so many decorations and fantastic light shows, and all your creative windows.
But best thing about the event was how it included anyone who wanted to join in; young, old, arty or not.
“A massive well done and thank you to everyone who’s taken part.
“Such a positive community feel to Kinross and Milnathort right now - definitely got a warm glow.”
Other towns and villages across the region are having their own events and encouraging people to spread some Christmas cheer in dark times.
